Brooke and Nick's rainy day Mercury Hall Wedding. Austin, Tx by Melanie Grizzel

Brooke and Nick rainy day Mercury Hall Wedding, Austin, Tx.

From Brooke:

Planning: The planning went well, I’m glad we gave ourselves a long engagement to think about things we wanted and to shop around. We did a good job sharing responsibilities, in fact I have to credit Nick with moving things along, I am really thankful that he wanted to be involved and help coordinate things. We’re both thankful for Rachelle, our 30-day coordinator at Mercury Hall. She did a great job answering our questions and helping us figure out last minute items, and on the day of the wedding it was such a relief knowing she was there to make it all run smoothly!

Favorite Memory: So many highlights come to mind, for both of us! For Nick, his highlights were seeing me for the first time in my dress, and giving his toast. For me, it was walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Nick in front of me, and hearing all the loving remarks from my sister Kate, brother-in-law Peter, dad Rolfe, and of course Nick!

Wish you knew then: For Nick, the décor details are things you shouldn’t waste a lot of time or money on, most people don’t remember those things anyway. For me, I wish I hadn’t worried so much about how everyone was going to get along. Everyone there showed me so much love and support.

Erica -N- Alan / Chapel Dulcinea Wedding Photography / Austin Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

"...at the end of the day you are married, and the wedding was perfect!"

From the Bride - I remember the afternoon of the wedding pulling up to the venue and having to hide under my sister’s pashmina because guests were walking right by the car. Of course my uncle saw me and started laughing and pointing me out to other guests! Finally once we were in line to walk into the chapel, the musicians began playing the most beautiful rendition of “Concerning Hobbits” from the Lord of the Rings Soundtrack and I finally felt excited instead of just ready to get it over with. Fast forward to the reception, I was happy to see my new husband and guests having a great time. While there were plenty of hiccups in the planning process, both Alan and I had a great time with all the different people in our lives coming together and celebrating. Seeing my 80-something year old Grandma jamming to our ragtag bluegrass band was pretty heartwarming, too :) I feel like I should add a disclaimer here: I feel like there is a lot of pressure on brides to orchestrate the most perfect and flawless day. My advice is to let it go. Flowers will get knocked over, people will get drunk, someone might still be hung up on your pink wedding dress and non-diamond engagement ring and will choose your reception to remind you of this, and you may get stuck in your Spanx and nearly have to cut it off at the hotel that night, but if at the end of the day you are married, the wedding was perfect!

From the Groom - Once "Concerning Hobbits" started playing I almost choked up. Luckily both of us maintained composure through the whole ceremony (I'm an ugly crier). It was just so exciting to take my new wife's hand and walk down the aisle together after ringing the chapel bell. After Mel took some shots of the party, family and us newlyweds, we headed back to the Barn for the reception. Our families and friends did an amazing job of decorating-- my grandpa even made custom etched pine centerpieces for all of the tables. Once we arrived for the reception it moved incredibly fast. Damon, my best man, and Thomas, our mutual friend who introduced us, both had great speeches which doubled as passable stand up routines. Our friends from school also brought fiddles, guitars, banjos and mandolins for some live music out on the patio. Probably the most memorable moment of the night was when they had Erica and I to join them on the washboard and wash-tub bass for an impromptu jam session.

Thanks to all of these wonderful Austin Wedding Vendors

Andrea -N- Dylan / Umlauf Sculpture Garden Wedding / Austin Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

Andrea -N- Dylan an April wedding Umlauf Sculpture Garden in Austin Texas. from Andrea: Our wedding was amazing! The whole day went as planned thanks to our amazing vendors, family, wedding party, and especially my mom, who was invaluable from start to finish, I couldn't have done it without her! Planning the event was super easy with Jessica Brightwell at Pearl Events. She was there every step of the way with awesome tips, schedules, and checklists. She-n-He made photo sessions a breeze with their laid back attitude, funny sense of humor, and great appreciation for highlighting personality in photos. Word of Mouth catering exceeded my expectations with their super helpful staff and delicious food.

For me, one of my favorite aspects of our wedding was the atmosphere and tone for our special day. It was important for us to create a fun filled atmosphere in a space that friends and family would be comfortable. Carrie at Flora Fetish transformed Umlauf Sculpture Gardens into an electrifying, fun, "vintage with a twist" venue that entertained our guests to no end! With her help, we were able to highlight our personalities with games, quirky accents, and style.
The only thing I would change is to spend less time on the dance floor and a little more time to allow myself to sit back and take it all in. Time flew by and I know there were many aspects of the wedding that I missed!
Our wedding day was the best day of my life. Even though the day went by faster than I can believe, I'll never forget how very fortunate I am to have had so many great people, family, and supporters who helped create such an amazing day.

Ashley -N- Jeremy / Stonehouse Villas Wedding / Driftwood Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

Ashley -N- Jeeremy

from Ashley:
While trying to be the laid back, under controlling, collected "bridezilla!" It was important to us that we got everything we hoped for! The idea for the wedding was for it to act as our first family reunion with all of our Best friends of course!! We strived to do everything out if the box! When we first saw Stonehouse Villa we knew it would be the perfect place for everyone to forget about everything and let loose. Christina was incredible. She was always on top of my multiple ( and I mean MULTIPLE) emails. All of our vendors were nothing short of amazing. Kassie from Catering with a Twist certainly made sure the food wasn't your typical wedding menu, but a plate of spicy Mexican food! Jason from Altared weddings made sure that someone's foot was tapping to the music from beginning to end. Jason Freshly our wonderful coordinator was my best friend for 48 hours.
Then there's Melanie from She-n-He photography. I've already decided that we are best friends. When Jeremy and I met her, she was perfect. Her enthusiasm made me that much more excited. We gave her no restrictions.  It's strange, for a year or so, we had these great ideas for certain photos, but as it got closer and everything started to happen we lost them.  Yet, all it took was a cup of coffee (or three!) with Melanie and she just understood us.  She knew what we were looking for just by hearing us chit-chat.  it was effortless.
You spend all this time wondering how this possibly is going to work out. The worry, the anxiety, the stress, all of that goes away when you see each other.

Theresa -N- Nick / Austin Country Club Wedding / Austin Wedding Photography by Melanie Grizzel

Theresa and Nick!

Man, I had such a wonderful time photographing these guys. Their love for each other is intoxicating. How could I not LOVE this job when it comes to couples like this?!

Theresa's day started with make-up (face kandy) and hair (Danielle Barr) at the Westin with all of her best girls. Then a quick ride over to Our Lady of Guadalupe in East Austin. If you don't know this church, you must experience it.  Tucked into an East Austin neighborhood, the church is quite stunning. It's old and unpolished and yet on the inside its filled with color and light and warmth. Finding the perfect place to exchange your vows can be difficult, but when the couple and venue match as well as these folks - its incredible.  The ceremony, officiated by Nick's own grandfather, was a beautiful affair filled with laughter and tears of joy.  Hopefully no one saw me crying as well, it was so darn easy to get caught up in it all.

Next we travelled to Austin Country Club where the couple was met with cocktails and revelry from their family and friends. Musical Discovery played strings for their cocktail hour while CLINK wrapped up the finishing touches of their wedding decor inside and out. It was elegant, refined, and classy. And then things got a little wild. Nick's family is from New York and apparently it's a New York tradition to enter the reception and start dancing immediately just to give your guests a taste of what they can expect throughout the evening. What an amazing tradition and it got everyone out of their seats and boogying down right off the bat. Penguin Entertainment did a marvelous job of keeping that party going all night long.

Congratulations to Theresa and Nick! we wish you all the love and happiness in the world, and thanks for bringing us along for the ride.

Stassney -N- Tommy - Contest Winner / Night time Engagement Photography / Austin Engagement Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

Stassney and Tommy have been engaged for 1 million years. :)  We met them at a bridal event way back in 2009.  Since then we had gone back and forth a few times on whether we'd be able to shoot their wedding.  Dates and plans had changed a couple times and it was looking like it wasn't going to happen for us. Flash forward to a contest we ran a couple months ago, "Be our # ____ fan." Well, her good girlfriend won the contest and handed it over to her. Stassney was thrilled and told me to "come up with something cool" for the shoot.  I wanted to do a sordid affair in the style of late night paparazzi. They were all in!  As you can see, we worked in some not too obvious pieces too, for their Memphis home walls. After our session, they decided to bust their budget and they have now brought us on to photograph their March wedding. I am thrilled that everything has worked out. Stassney is like a sister to me these days and I just can't imagine not being there for her. I'm so happy to be charged with photographing their long-awaited wedding day! Congratulations you two, see you in 6 weeks!
